Diet Culture 101 - Part 1⁣

Image has green leaves in the background that are covered in water droplets. There is a search bar that is white and contains the text what is diet culture

Diet Culture is a toxic system of values & beliefs. This system values thinness & believes that being thin is the standard as well as what it means to be healthy...& that health and beauty are what we owe to exist here.⁣

This system convinces us that we must always be striving to change our body...that being thin & working towards being thin should always be apart of our life & is a sign of discipline, worth, & makes us more valuable to society.⁣

This system places a moral value on food and body size/appearance/weight. This means that we can spend our whole lives believing we aren’t good enough because we don’t live up to these arbitrary ideals.⁣

Diet culture teaches us to shrink ourselves. To shrink our body, & as a result, our life as a whole shrinks.⁣

Diet culture leads many of us to believe that we aren’t worthy or valued or lovable or acceptable the way we are. This can lead to us showing up in relationships believing that we aren’t worthy or valued or lovable or acceptable the way we are. Taking a shitty job or salary because we believe we aren’t worthy or valued or lovable or acceptable the way we are.⁣

We limit our life significantly when we live under the toxicity of diet culture. ⁣
